THE FALL/WINTER STAPLE

IMG_8029 3 IMG_8040 IMG_8044
I've found a staple in Fall/Winter – a black knit beanie. Rare to see me in a hat and many times, I feel winter beanies make me look bald. I managed to find this hat at Yunnan for only 25 rmb (Even my mom and sister bought the same one in different colours). I felt I needed it and its practical. Qualified in my "Fall/Winter staples list" together with a coat or scarf which are definitely necessities, this too should be in every girl's winter wardrobe.

SWEET TOOTH NOT

IMG_6478 IMG_6452 IMG_6454 IMG_6518 IMG_6511
I'm a sucker for overly sweet food. I like pastries, cookies and such but when it gets too sweet, it becomes a torture to finish eating it. Tried Starbucks' peppermint brownie and the usual green tea frappe when I'm there, and my throat screamed for plain water, it almost got killed by its sweetness. I'm apparently not exactly one with sweet tooth. Somehow as I type this, I crave for some local hokkien mee or black bean beef horfun, thinking about my dinner already.

By the way, enjoy your boxing day! I've advanced my boxing day till yesterday.

MERRY 2012 XMAS

IMG_8087 IMG_8094 IMG_8097
The mood for Christmas this year came along with an Italian lunch with The Rake, playing Christmas hymns as a keyboardist for my church band, church Christmas events and my inspiration to make a card. Nothing commerical. I honestly dislike seeing how Christmas, such historic event – the birth of Jesus, became so commercialised, seeing the true meaning being neglected. For the first time I decided to design Christmas cards for my friends. I like sleek, clean designs though I felt it could have been better. I guess something for now within a short amount of time I had to complete. Blessed Christmas!

THE GREY COAT

xThe grey coat. Obviously for me, I only wear them once a year – winter, when I travel overseas. I have about 3 winter coats, this trip to Yunnan I brought a fleece grey coat. Don't think its from a high street or coldwear store, I got it from a local departmental store two years ago. I love how comfortable it is (it acts as a good blanket or a bolster on long bus journeys). I didn't plan to wear it every day but eventually I did simply because the weather is too cold for me and that was the only thing that kept me warm throughout.

BACK FROM YUNNAN

IMG_7924
IMG_7739
IMG_6653I just returned back from a getaway to Yunnan. Most people tend to visit more popular places and most would choose not to come to China but this time I visited China again, my 5th visit to different province. I appreciate China's strong history and culture, and you got to agree with me it's true. Truly an eye opener and a place I can escape from the daily buildings I see and fast paced society in Singapore (partly also an escape from the scorching sun here). But now, back to internship and school's starting soon.

DIOR SNACK

IMG_6407IMG_6412The Editorial Manager at The Rake handed me this box of chocolate Dior gave as a gift during a recent event, and it ended up in my fridge because he didn't bear to eat it. Now I'm in a dilemma whether I should eat it as well because it looks so intricately drawn. Looks more like an art work than something to consume. Really appreciate the effort Dior put into every small things even chocolates. Can I keep the chocolate in my fridge forever or I should just close my eyes and bid it goodbye?

WARM LIGHT UNDER THE NAVY SKY

IMG_64292IMG_6436In this age of clothes recycling where we purchase something, wear them a few times, sell, purchase (and you know the cycle continues or you chuck them away). This blouse is considered a senior in my wardrobe, having been kept in it and still worn for close to 3 years. I honestly have no specific reason why I never sell it or stop wearing it, I guess its just comfortable and its basic with a unique collar cut. Moving on, the Margiela x H&M bracelet has joined the league of my everyday wear. I'm still quite amazed by the number of people who noticed this bracelet and told me things like my watch is falling off or asking me for the time. Cute observation, and they wonder why I wear a "fake watch" or "weird accessory" but I like it that seemingly odd way.

EVERYDAY & FOREVER

IMG_4212
IMG_4150 IMG_6338
"I just want to sleeppp!" clearly the statement lament every morning. I am apparently still not quite adapted to working my entire school break off, also partly how the morning cool weather this rainy season makes it a twice times harder to peel myself off the bed. There're honestly quite a number of things I would like to do during this holiday and hope to strike them off the list, but I'm quite tied down by work. (Kids, treasure your school life seriously) I'm contented on the other hand, that I'm going back to school, that this is just an internship which will end in a blink of an eye. Which got me thinking quite a while now...Should I take up another related degree after my completion of BA (Hons) in Fashion Communications or dive straight into the work force till retirement? I have a year and half to continue thinking till I graduate from Lasalle. Such a tough and crucial decisions to make in life that will path my future.

I LOVE THEE

weddingdress3On my birthday last month, apart from the Italian food I had if you remembered, I visited The Weddings Dress, exhibiting gowns from across two centuries ago flew in from London's V&A museum. I'm one who wants to get married in my mid twenties and have kids one day. Since young, I tend to picture how I want my wedding to be, the gown...But I'll let God to guide me till that day comes.

Thought I'd get some kind of inspiration from the exhibition for my future gown but it was more of an eye opener for me – my first time seeing a 60s mod & winter wedding gown. My usual style may gravitate towards minimalism, I'd like to have intricate details on my gown. Not sure what I really want yet, I still have years till its time for me to look for my gown but I like something Givenchy haute couture fall 2011 minus the revealing design.

MARGIELA CLASP BRACELET

margiela2
margielaFor the first time in my life I've won something like a lucky draw, in this case, a giveaway. Few weeks back, VULTURE opened a giveaway by sharing and liking a photo of Margiela x H&M clasp bracelet, which I did and eventually won this giveaway. Though this bracelet is a little loose for my wrist, it is an extremely unique piece of accessory. A few of my church friends, got a little fooled by it, asking me for the time and then realising it isn't a watch.

The tote bag that came along with it was another simple yet interesting creation and definitely very "Margiela" with its white stitch over white fabric, his signature numerical and deconstruction style (raw fray ends at the handle). My Mom thinks its awful but I think otherwise. I know its a beauty, its the ugly pretty in the world of Maison Martin Margiela. Despite it going mainstream with the collaboration and it being archives from past collections, for a student like me with an average allowance and not having to queue overnight outside the H&M store, it is an honour to win something Margiela, as the MMM legacy continues.

IT'S FRIDAY

work1
Friday has become one of my favourite day of the week. Simply because its the end of weekdays. I'm looking forward to it every week, especially now that I am in the work force till January. On a side note, being a part of The Rake allowed me to extend my appreciation for prim and proper and masculine-feminine rakish wear for women as we anticipate the birth of Mrs Rake. I'm thinking of ways I can pull myself off in masculine-like wear but still look feminine.

ANOTHER RAT-RACE

(i) Internship at The Rake (ii) Lunch break (iii) School's project: Supplement for Topshop SS13
(iv) MMM x H&M bracelet (v) Breakfast prepared by my beloved grandma.

Another rat-race has just begun. Just when I end a semester in school, I've just started my internship at The Rake. 6 days into internship has been all right so far, but still trying to get used to the working life – Waking up at 7 in the morning, squeezing with everyone on the public transport and craving for sleep. I'll be used to it soon and enjoy my internship.

Truth to be told, school has made me seriously financially crippled. I really need some help, would appreciate your support here. I'll be updating with more items starting next week. Thank you!

BACK TO BACK

IMG_6067

Its the last week, the last lap of this school semester for me. My life now at this stage is basically all about printing images, journalism, doing up a creative process journal, lots of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign usage everyday, working across a few projects. I'm thankful I've submitted my 2500 words essay last week to ease my mind off something. Somehow I can't wait for my China trip next month to take a breather off school and internship, which is officially starting soon. For now, back on photoshopping!

ON THE 19TH

A simple and sweet way to spend my 19th birthday. Coincidental Italian lunch and dinner with my love ones. The delicate knit is so beautiful, I know I will wear it for a long long time and this adorable is now my companion when I sleep and do my work at home. Finally bought new shoes, considering to remove those chains, they're redundant. (Thank you for the gifts!) The best way to spend a birthday is simply with your love ones, nothing beats that.

MARGIELA x H&M

Not that sure of Margiela's current approach on going mainstream by collaborating with H&M but the prices are definitely at a more affordable range. I particularly like the white circle shirt, long black skirt, transparent belt, chunky necklace and perspex heels. However, its still not within my affordability hence I'd only view them on the H&M racks on November 15th or should I just invest in them? Hmm, maybe not.

THE BLACK DREAM

IMG_5804IMG_5810IMG_5805
My friends often label me as "The girl who loves black and white" and its true. Some might say its boring but I believe some will agree with me that it is extremely chic and timeless, (it never gets old, as the saying goes on forever) suitable for someone like me whom doesn't like conforming to trends. Not that I don't owe colours in my wardrobe and I do love colours. This birthday, I've received black and white card, pouch and stationeries. More black!
